During an Inspection

What happens when I bring my vehicle in for an inspection?

One of our qualified Vehicle Examiners will greet you and will take your vehicle and the relevant documents. During the inspection you can wait in the designated waiting area. When the inspection is completed, we will issue the vehicle inspection report to you.

How long will my inspection take?

We have service standards in place for each type of inspection. To see how long your inspection will take, please refer to our service standard.

Can I watch my vehicle inspection being carried out?

For health and safety reasons, we prefer that our customers wait in the designated waiting area. For cases where the customer is unsatisfied with their vehicle inspection results, we may permit entrance to the inspection area to witness the failed items.

Private Vehicle owners who wish to come for voluntary inspection may watch the inspection process.

Can I leave my vehicle at the inspection centre and collect it later?

No, you need to stay on the premises and collect your vehicle as soon as the inspection is complete.

What will the vehicle examiner look for during an inspection?

As all inspections are slightly different, please refer to the details under Guide to Inspections to find out what is checked during each type of inspection.

We verify that the engine’s unique identity number matches the number on the vehicle’s registration document.

This procedure is conducted to determine that your vehicle is not a 'cut-and-join' assembled vehicle. All our Vehicle Examiners are fully trained and experienced. All parts removed will be installed in its original position after inspection.

What is the passing rate for tinted glass?

The legal limit, and therefore passing rate, for front glass is at least 70% and 50% for side and rear window glass. This means that at least 70% of light must pass through the front and 50% through the sides and rear before a 'passed' inspection report can be issued.

Can you check that my engine is running OK?

No, we only provide a visual check during an inspection. The visual checks may flag up some problems: for example if the oil is leaking, it will be seen during the inspection and reported.

Our experienced Vehicle Examiners may tell you informally if they detect or suspect something unusual during the inspections, but this will not appear on the report.

Other Questions

Why do I need to get my vehicle inspected at PUSPAKOM?

There are two main reasons for bringing your vehicle for an inspection at PUSPAKOM.

Most of the inspections that we undertake are a legal requirement, and are therefore mandatory. PUSPAKOM is the only inspection company authorised by the Malaysian Government to perform mandatory inspections on vehicles.

As your safety is our priority, we recommend that private vehicle owners also bring their vehicles in to be checked regularly to ensure they are roadworthy and mechanically sound so as to avoid accidents or breakdowns.

What are the benefits of vehicle inspections?

The main reason for an inspection is to ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy. There are a number of benefits outlined here.

My vehicle had been serviced recently, does it need to be inspected?

PUSPAKOM is a vehicle inspection specialist, and your workshop or service centre provides servicing only. Therefore all mandatory inspections at PUSPAKOM are still necessary, to comply with legal regulations.

My vehicle is new. Are inspections necessary for new vehicles?

All mandatory inspection at PUSPAKOM is necessary, to comply with legal regulations. However, the frequency of inspections is lower for new vehicles. Please refer to the details in Inspection Frequency to see how often you need to bring your vehicle in for an inspections with us.

Is there any penalty if I do not get an inspection after the road tax has expired for more than a year?

There is no penalty. However, you will not able to renew your road tax, and therefore you will not able to use your vehicle.

How can I be sure that my inspection will be fair and that all customers are treated the same?

There is no discrimination at PUSPAKOM. Our Vehicle examiners are well trained and are impartial. We use computerised testing equipment for the technical check points and this equipment is calibrated to give a consistent test result, so there can be no interference with the results.

I have a company car. Is this classed as a commercial vehicle and do I need to bring it to PUSPAKOM for Routine Inspections?

A vehicle owned by a company and provided to employees for private use is therefore not classed as a ‘commercial’ vehicle and does not need to undergo Routine Inspections. Any vehicle registered for commercial use will need to have a Routine Inspection every 6 months.

What should I do if an agent or 'runner' approaches me?

Some runners, or agents will tell you that it is necessary to use their services to facilitate your vehicle inspection. This is NOT the case: - agents are unnecessary and there is no need to pay their usually exhorbitant fees. You can bring your vehicle to any PUSPAKOM Inspection Centre yourself and pay only the inspection fees, as outlined in the fees table here. - every PUSPAKOM customer is treated equally. Agents are NOT able to influence an inspection result.

Please call us if you are unsure about any part of the inspection procedure and we will be happy to assist you.

Can PUSPAKOM repair my vehicle?

PUSPAKOM provides inspection services only and does not make vehicle repairs. The inspection report provides all necessary details required by a workshop to facilitate vehicle repairs.
